People outside Venezuela have no idea how bad is La Hojilla. It is the perfect complement to a censorship policy: a place where you can insult and calumniate people without the victims been able to defend themselves, not even through the courts.

And tinkerKenny has also missed that point that Simpsons will be replaced by Baywatch, so why is CONATEL not disciplining Televen for Baywatch? Or I take it you have no objection to sexist shows shown at 11am?

TinkerKenny

I think that the point of the author is that grossly offensive shows as La Hojilla do whatever they want even if they break all ethical and legal rules.

IT is clear that the Venezuela regulatory agency has two standards, one for the private media and one for the media subjected to Chavez. Or better said, there are no standards for state media. The Simpsons case is a good example. That should be worrisome to anyone.

I think tinkerKenny is missing the point of the Simpsons censorship. It is not children´s show true, but it should be allowed late at night for the right audience. Mr. Chavez wants it out of the program all together, what´s funny is that the show has been around longer than the Chavez goverment.

Come on now, having "childrens hours" is not outright censorship. Nothing is stopping the channel from moving the show to an evening time slot. You can argue whether or not the Simpsons should be moved at all, but if you agree that any time restrictions are censorship, you'd have to condemn just about every country in the world.

I'm from Mexico and the Simpsons are not consdiered "family programing" the way that it is in the states. Disrespect of family members is taken much more seriously there. It's still popular but not generally considered a show kids should be watching.
