MPs to call for an end to libel tourism
16 Dec 2008Senior MPs from all the major parties will tomorrow ask the government to end the practice of wealthy foreign people using British libel law and British courts to silence investigative journalists.
In a debate to be held tomorrow morning former minister Denis MacShane will join forces with senior Liberal Democrat Norman Lamb and Conservative Michael Gove to raise the issue of Britain becoming a place, as MacShane put it, ‘where the rich and powerful can use the law to attack their critics and gag journalists, editors and publishers.’
