China: CCTV charged with propaganda

In an open letter posted on Chinese-language website Boxun.com, a group of more than 20 Chinese lawyers, writers, and intellectuals accuse state television CCTV of misleading its audience with propaganda and call for viewers to boycott its programmes.

The open letter accuses the state TV monopoly of ignoring or underreporting critical news. Its author, Ling Canzhou, said the letter, originally published on a US-based website but picked up widely by Chinese websites, should at least alert the public to the problem though the state TV broadcaster is too pervasive to be boycotted effectively.
