Nepal: reporter stabbed to death
13 Jan 2009A group of around 15 unidentified people attacked and killed 24-year old radio and newspaper reporter Uma Singh, in her home in the southeastern district of Dhanusa on 11 Jan.
She died of multiple stab wounds to the head and upper body shortly after the attack. Her editor at the Nepali-language daily Janakapur Today told press that her coverage of issues relating to women’s rights and local political issues might have been the cause of her murder. State-owned broadcaster Nepal TV said that a local political group had claimed responsibility for the attack, adding that it was committed ‘mistakenly’.
