Singapore: WSJ charged with contempt

A senior editor of the Wall Street Journal is being taken to court by the Singapore government.

On Friday 13 March a High Court judge granted an application by the Attorney-General to start proceedings against Melanie Kirkpatrick for “actions which resulted in the publication and distribution” of the articles in WSJ’s sister paper, WSJ Asia. The three articles that were published in 2008 are said to have ‘contained passages that scandalise the Singapore judiciary’.
