Turkey: investigative journalist murdered
21 Dec 2009Cihan Hayirsevener, the editor of a local newspaper in the northwestern Turkish city of Bandirma has been shot dead. The shooting follows threats made against him over his coverage of a corruption scandal. The 53-year-old was walking to the newspaper’s office shortly on Friday when he was shot in the leg three times by an unidentified assailant, the Anatolia news agency reported. One of the bullets ruptured a vital artery and he later died in hospital. Read more here
