No such denial exists in Israel. Would be nice if in the partly tribal society of the neighbours such liberty would exist.

I sincerely doubt that the purpose of the interview was to “bash” Israel (despite the ease of such an action). If any message comes of Divan it’s that – because of the Mid-Eastern diversity – the members of the orchestra don’t matter; thus stating that any people’s background doesn’t matter; it’s their potential message does. By making such broad generalizations, if the Israeli government was guilty of anything it would be the denial of individuality among its own people. The fact that there are even just a handful of Israelis who would want to be a part of Divan is proof that the policies and “bans” put forth by the government are out of touch with its own people.

So here we go again, if we could believe Barenboim and Index, it is a big problem, that Wagner is not played in Israel, and that he and his friends were not allowed to travel to Gaza. That there could be a security reason for that does not enter his mind.
Is this the real world?
In the centre of Europe in Hungary uniformed National-socialists are marching, an MP of the extreme right party Jobbik can threaten journalists with a horse-whip, telling them that he could rape them.
Does index publish such news? No. Index is too busy with Israel-bashing.
