- There speaks the threat assessment of a rational human being… no wait, I mean paranoid lunatic whose assessment of the threat was shown to be incorrect, and given the ratio of firebombings in the West to number of books published about Islam is something like 0.001 / 1 I think he’ll remain safe for a little while longer.

Exactly, unfortunately you will have a harder time conveying this message when you’re being promoted by Ophelia Benson, a well known proponent of the “Islam is supa evil” hypothesis (sub variant “Like all religion but mostly Islam – check out this crazy anti-Islam African guy I have blogging for me. I’m no bigot!”)

I have seen so much Christian hate speech leveled on blogs and social media outlets threatening violence against anyone who dare question Christian dogma, including some absolutely horrific threats against Athiest organizations. Muslims certainly hold no monopoly on the threat of terror being used to silence any critical thinking or discussion about religious ideology.

Our web site has dedicated an entire page to articles and commentaries such as this. Its called Silencing Americans Through Fear. The Islamists have gotten media and publishing firms to actually stay silent, under the threat of violence.

Been there. A close brush with the “prediction of trouble leading to censorship” problem – which fortunately was only a brush.

A week before the book Does God Hate Women? (which I co-wrote with Jeremy Stangroom) was to be published in May 2009, a reporter for the Times interviewed the publisher and told him how brave he was. He was understandably alarmed by this, and delayed publication in order to consult an “ecumenicist”…who fortunately said we’d documented our claims and publication should go ahead, which it did. But it was a very fraught few days for us.
