Index on Censorship, Britain’s leading organisation promoting freedom of expression, is launching a new internship scheme. We are creating four posts for graduates (or similar) to work with us for eight weeks, full time, on our website and magazine, events, and arts and education projects.
In return for your time (we are aiming for two months) and your work, we are keen to provide you with on-hand experience and training, and, if all goes well, a strong reference for your future career.
We intend to have four interns, each specialising in different fields, but all contributing to the general effort too. The main function is supporting the editor and her team, and supporting the chief executive and the office in general. But there will also be opportunities with the arts, and with our in-field projects.
The basic tasks are (and these will be explained in more detail):
1) general office support
2) general editorial support
3) Index-Index (annual round up of censorship)
4) helping to coordinate our various events, including our awards ceremony
5) archive work for editorial
The internship will suit applicants with a strong interest in current affairs, human rights and journalism. You will have the chance to research and generate stories for the website; contribute to editorial ideas; co-ordinate and write for our new, annual censorship round up, as well as participating in wider activities in the organisation.
Index on Censorship will cover lunch and travel expenses. The hours are 10-6, but can be flexible.
