{"id":22499,"date":"2011-04-28T17:28:05","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T16:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/?p=22499"},"modified":"2012-04-25T17:19:57","modified_gmt":"2012-04-25T16:19:57","slug":"9-may-i-have-no-enemies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/newsite02may\/?p=22499","title":{"rendered":"PAST EVENT: Liu Xiaobo documentary and Q&#038;A: I Have No Enemies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Index on Censorship<\/strong>, <strong>English PEN<\/strong> and <strong>Free Word<\/strong> <strong> <\/strong> present <strong>I Have No Enemies<\/strong>, the moving documentary about Nobel Peace Prize winner <strong>Liu Xiaobo<\/strong>,\u00a0the only Nobel peace prize laureate currently in detention.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday 9 May 2011, 6.30pm<br \/>\nFree Word Centre, 60 Farringdon Road, London, EC1R 3GA<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Liu Xiaobo<\/strong>, one of China\u2019s preeminent dissident writers and activists, was arrested in December 2008 on the eve of the release of <strong>Charter 08<\/strong>, an extraordinary declaration he had co-authored, calling for political reform, greater human rights, and an end to one-party rule. On 25 December 2009, he was convicted of incitement to subversion and sentenced to 11 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>This 30-minute documentary, directed by Claudine Parrish and produced by Nobel Media, features interviews with many of Liu\u2019s supporters, friends and colleagues, including celebrated international artist <strong>Ai Weiwei<\/strong> , whose whereabouts remain unknown after his arrest on 3 April.<\/p>\n<p>Following the film screening, there will be a Q&amp;A session with the film\u2019s director <strong>Claudine Parrish, <\/strong>Chinese writer<strong> Ma Jian <\/strong>and his translator <strong>Flora Drew, <\/strong>prize-winning translator and lecturer of modern Chinese history<strong> Dr Julia Lovell, <\/strong>and Chair of English PEN\u2019s Writers in Prison Committee, <strong>Salil Tripathi<\/strong>.
