IACHR criticised\u00a0<a title=\"Index on Censorship - Venezuela: Satirical magazine censored\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/newsite02may\/2011\/08\/venezuela-satirical-magazine-censored\/\" target=\"_blank\">measures\u00a0taken against<\/a>\u00a0satirical magazine <a title=\"Index on Censorship - 6to Poder\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/newsite02may\/tag\/6to-poder\/\" target=\"_blank\">6to Poder<\/a>,\u00a0which was briefly censored for a cover portraying six\u00a0government officials as cabaret dancers. The organisation released a statement saying that such instances &#8220;are against the regional standards for freedom of expression and\u00a0create an intimidatory environment, encouraging self-censorship.&#8221; They also referred to a case against opposition politician\u00a0Oswaldo \u00c1lvarez Paz, who was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/knightcenter.utexas.edu\/blog\/venezuela-convicts-opposition-leader-two-years-prison-comments-interview\" target=\"_Blank\">sentenced to two years in prison in July 2011 for &#8220;distributing false information<\/a>&#8220;, having accused\u00a0Hugo Ch\u00e1vez&#8217;s government of supporting drug trafficking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Organization of American States&#8217;\u00a0Inter-American Commission on Human Rights\u00a0(IACHR) has\u00a0accused Venezuela of censoring the country&#8217;s media.
