He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">History is repeating itself; Ben Ali thugs attacked our headquarters, and burned computers. We elected a national constituent assembly, to protect people, draft a new constitution, and improve the country\u2019s situation, but the situation now is even worse\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Elhiwar Ettounsi was launched in 2003, and succeeded in broadcasting for a few hours per week\u00a0despite the Ben Ali regime\u2019s tight control over the media sector. Like any other independent media during that era, the channel faced censorship and financial restrictions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">According to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?v=383947338309027\">report<\/a> released by the station, the attackers also stole video recording equipment and laptops. The station condemned the attack as &#8220;a subjugation attempt&#8221; &#8212; but did not make any specific accusations &#8212; opting instead to await the results of police investigations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, Elhiwar Ettounsi channel team, do not accuse any party, and we believe that law which is above all, will take the course of justice\u201d the channel <a title=\"Facebook: Elhiwar Ettounsi\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=383898641647230&amp;id=196316433738786)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> in a statement made on their official Facebook page.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/uncut.indexoncensorship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/elhiwarfacebook.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-5663 aligncenter\" title=\"elhiwarfacebook\" src=\"http:\/\/uncut.indexoncensorship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/elhiwarfacebook.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p>Some have speculated that members of Tunisia&#8217;s hardline Islamist Salafis might be responsible for the attacks. National Syndicate for Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) board member Zied Heni pointed out to\u00a0Radio Mosa\u00efque FM that the attacks &#8220;took place following the channel&#8217;s broadcast of reports illustrating Salafi groups committing crimes.
