{"id":677,"date":"2008-10-21T13:51:38","date_gmt":"2008-10-21T13:51:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/?p=677"},"modified":"2017-01-09T12:04:17","modified_gmt":"2017-01-09T12:04:17","slug":"satirist-beaten-in-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/newsite02may\/?p=677","title":{"rendered":"Satirist beaten in jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Azerbaijani satirist and government critic Sakit Zakhidov, known by his pen name, Mirza Sakit, was brutally beaten in jail on 18 October, local media activists have told <em>Index on Censorship<\/em>.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nSakit was jailed in June 2008 for allegedly carrying narcotics, but human right groups say his detention is politically motivated.
