{"id":8427,"date":"2012-05-02T15:34:34","date_gmt":"2012-05-02T15:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.indexoncensorship.org\/?p=8427"},"modified":"2019-09-16T13:27:23","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T12:27:23","slug":"leveson-inquiry-part-two-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/newsite02may\/?p=8427","title":{"rendered":"Doubt cast over part two of Leveson Inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.levesoninquiry.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Application-of-Rule-13-of-the-Inquiry-Rules-2006.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> released by the Leveson Inquiry late last night has raised doubts as to whether the second part of the Inquiry into press standards will go ahead, due to concerns over value and costs.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement, Lord Justice Leveson expressed concern over the &#8220;enormous cost (both to the public purse and the participants)&#8221; and voiced his fear that the Inquiry may &#8220;trawl\u00a0over material then more years out of date&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>While not ruling out the possibility of a second part, Lord Justice Leveson said: &#8220;It is likely that the process of pre-trial disclosure and trial will be lengthy so that Part 2 of this Inquiry will be delayed for very many months if not longer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In those circumstances, it seems to me that it is in \u00a0everyone\u2019s interests that Part 1 goes as far as it possibly can.
