Baku Appellate Court dismissed Fatullayev&#8217;s plea to have his sentence reduced by two months. Fatullayev had the term of his <a title=\"Index on Censorship: Azerbaijan: editor charged\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/newsite02may\/tag\/eynulla-fatullayev\/\">detention prolonged by eight weeks<\/a> earlier this month when 0.223 grams of heroin was found during his cell. In October 2007, <a title=\"Index On Censorship: Eynulla Fatullayev\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indexoncensorship.org\/newsite02may\/tag\/eynulla-fatullayev\/\">Fatullayev<\/a>, then\u00a0editor of the central Asian country\u2019s two largest independent newspapers, Gundelik Azerbaijan and Reakniy Azerbaijan,\u00a0was<a title=\"International Press Institute: IPI condemns sentencing of Azeri editor Eynulla Fatullayev\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freemedia.at\/singleview\/2064\/\" target=\"_blank\"> sentenced to 8.5 years in prison<\/a> for terrorism and other charges. Human Rights Watch said that this reflected growing hostility from the state towards freedom of expression.
