Father Ted writers criticise Irish blasphemy law

Comedy writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews, who created the hit sitcom Father Ted, have criticised Ireland’s proposed new blasphemy law. Linehan said Irish blasphemy law was part of a trend in where freedom of expression was being attacked “to placate the craziest people on earth”.

Anti-terror book blocked

A book by Britain’s former top counter-terrorism officer has been blocked from the shelves following an injunction by the Attorney General. Andy Hayman’s The Terrorist Hunters describes the fight against Islamist extremism from his inside perspective as Scotland Yard assistant commissioner.

It has been reported that the book was also vetted by the Cabinet Office, MI5 and MI6 but an explanation for the injunction cannot be published for legal reasons.

Glasgow lifts ban on Life of Brian

Councillors in Glasgow have lifted an unofficial 30-year-old ban on the Monty Python film The Life of Brian. The council’s licensing and regulatory committee approved a request on Tuesday from Glasgow Film Theatre to show the biblical satire under a 15 certificate. Read more here
