Banned books reading room – Margate Queer Library

5 October - 11 October

Margate Queer Library teams up with local artists Connor Sansby & Dan Thompson to host a special residency of books that have been censored in the United Kingdom. Initially created as part of Marine Studios long running First Friday events, the Banned Books Reading Room features notable examples of queer literature that have at times faced censorship as British law and sensibility has evolved, as well as core examples of the British literary canon, such as as Ulysses and Lady Chatterley’s Lover that have faced restriction by the censors.

Events:

Censorship in British Literature & Media: A Talk by Connor Sansby – Sunday 5th October – 6pm – Marine Studios, 17 Albert Terrace, Margate, CT9 1UJ – Pay-What-You-Feel with all proceeds supporting Margate Queer Library & Archive.

Please note: the library is down a flight of stairs, with about ten steps. There is a handrail and various seating options in the library.”
