Nadeem Ghori, chief editor of independent weekly Saam (Champion) was arrested by Afghan security forces on 13 April.

Noor Ahmad, deputy editor of Saam, said the local government in Ghor Province has not released any details still about the arrest.
He added: ‘The 11th Issue of Saam featured a joke article about Mullahs. The region’s mullahs become unhappy about that and I think this is the reason [for the arrest].’
Baaz Muhammad Ahmadi, governor of Ghor Province, told Index: ‘I don’t know about the person you are talking about.’

It is the first time that a writer has been arrested for writing a critical article in Ghor Province.
