International Parliamentary Seminar on Media Freedom

Index on Censorship will be participating in the International Parliamentary Seminar on Media Freedom under the auspices of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (BGIPU) following on from the Global Conference on Media Freedom covened by the UK Foreign Secretary, Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, and his counterpart from Canada, Chrystia Freeland, 10-11 July in London.

Index’s head of advocacy Joy Hyvarinen will be speaking at the event on 10 September.

The Chair of the British Group of the IPU, Rt Hon John Whittingdale MP, has invited members of parliament from across the world to take part in this event at the Palace of Westminster in London from Monday 9th September to Wednesday 11th September 2019.

It will allow for follow-up to the key outcomes from an FCO conference and provide an opportunity to discuss parliament-driven solutions to protection and human rights issues affecting journalists and the broader media industry.
