The alliance between drug traffickers and the Mexican government poses the greatest threat to journalists, the Special Commission for Monitoring Attacks against Journalists has announced. The president of the commission, Gerardo Priego Tapia, explained that organised crime and drug trafficking are ‘knocking at the door’ of media executives. Moreover, the practice of targeting journalists, once confined to traditionally violent areas, is spreading throughout the country. Humberto Lena, the deputy of the party Convergenica and secretary of the Commission for the Defence of Journalists, said that the lower chamber is analysing a package of initiatives that will address the question of impunity.
