Nigerian police beat reporter into coma

State security officers in Imo state beat Wale Oluoko, a correspondent for Radio Nigeria, was beaten into a comatose state. Oluoko was apparently targeted for his ‘negative coverage’ of Imo state officials during a protest in Owerri in which visually impaired youths called for their inclusion in government welfare packages. Nigerian TV station shut down

Channels TV was shut down by Nigerian security services on 16 September, after running a story claiming the president would be resigning due to health reasons.

Nigerian police Arrest 15 reporters

On 6 May, the head office of the Leadership newspaper in Abuja was raided by policemen from the Niger State Command in north central Nigeria. The police had a list of 15 senior editorial staff who they claimed were wanted in Minna, the Niger State capital, for criminal defamation. The charges relate to an article about Senator Isa Mohammed.
