The Zimbabwean government is reported to be lodging a formal diplomatic complaint with Botswana over the alleged transmission of foreign radio news broadcasts into their territory. The state-controlled Herald newspaper, closely aligned with the former ruling ZANU-PF party of President Robert Mugabe, quoted Foreign Affairs Secretary Joey Bimha as saying the government objects to the transmission of what Bimha called “hate messages” from Botswana. Madonna was booed by thousands of fans when she spoke against “discrimination of Romanies and Gypsies in Eastern Europe” during a concert in Romania. She paused during her show and said: “It made me feel very sad.” Thousands in the crowd of 60,000 booed her. Read more here

The file-sharing website The Pirate Bay is now offline following a ruling by a Swedish court that ordered its largest internet service provider, Black Internet, to cut their service to the filesharing site. The court threatened Black Internet with a 500,000 kronor (£43,188) fine for failure to comply to withdraw services until the ongoing case between Pirate Bay and the entertainment industry is over. Ethiopia’s popular singer, Teddy Afro, was freed from prison last Thursday after serving 18 months of a two-year sentence because of good behaviour. Teddy, whose real name is Tewodros Kassahun, was found guilty of the killing of a homeless man in a hit-and-run incident in 2007 but denied driving the car. Opposition parties and supporters say Teddy had been jailed for his criticism to the government in some of his songs and hundreds protested outside the court during his trial. Read more here
