Jailed Gambian journalist has baby taken

Five of the six journalists sentenced to two years in prison for sedition and defamation against the government in Zambia have been moved to a northern prison.  This included Pap Saine, the Reuters correspondent who is suffering from a heart condition but has not been allowed to go to Senegal for the pacemaker operation.  The sixth journalist Sarata Jabba-Dibba has not been moved to the northern prison, but has had her seven month old baby, which she is still breastfeeding  taken away from her. Roadside bomb wounds two journalists in Afghanistan

The Associated Press has reported that two of its journalists who were embedded with the United States military in the south of the country had been wounded in a roadside bombing. Photographer, Emilio Morenatti, television news videographer, Andi Jatmiko, were both were immediately taken to a military hospital in Kandahar.  Jatmiko suffered leg injuries and two broken ribs, while Morenatti, had his foot amputated . Filipino journalist recieves death threat text

Mario Alviso, manager of Radyo Nitin in the Philippines, has received a text message from an unidentified sender the day after the death of political commentator Godofredo Linao’s murder, stating that the killing was “just a sample” of what could be done, and that “he would be next.” Read more here

Zimbabweans file lawsuit over toruture

In Zimbabwe a freelance photojournalist and 15 members of the Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai, have filed a lawsuit with the High Court demanding compensation in the amount of US $19.2 million ($1.2 million each) following their illegal detainments and alleged torture. Read more here
