Edinburgh Fringe Festival organisers have been accused of censorship. Sound recordist Colin Macnab has complained that his right to carry out interviews was under threat. Macnab claimed that he had been prevented from initiating interviews on the Royal Mile, the central focus of the festival, on many occasions. The Fringe office staff were said to be influencing the media activity on the street as they were apparently only allowing accredited journalists to operate there. Mr Macnab felt that this hindrance was unjustified on a public street. A spokesman for the festival acknowledged that the area was being patrolled, but only so that events could run efficiently.
