Sir Ken Macdonald QC, Former Director of Public Prosecutions, has joined the board of Index on Censorship.

Sir Ken, a co-founder of leading human rights chambers Matrix, was Director of Public Prosecutions from 2003 to 2008. He was knighted in recognition of his work in 2007.

Speaking this morning, Sir Ken said: ‘Free speech underpins our deepest values, but it is under pressure everywhere. I’m delighted to be joining the board of Index on Censorship, which campaigns so hard to protect our right to speak frankly and freely.’

Jonathan Dimbleby, Chair of Index on Censorship, welcomed Sir Ken: ‘Ken Macdonald has held high public office with distinction in very challenging times. I am delighted that he has agreed to become a trustee of Index on Censorship, where he will help shape our policies to protect and enhance freedom of expression everywhere.’

Index on Censorship Chief Executive John Kampfner said: ‘Ken Macdonald is one of the most experienced criminal-justice professionals and respected proponents of free expression in the UK. His decision to join Index on Censorship reflects the organisation’s leadership in the field.’
