Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez is said to be stepping up his campaign of hostility towards broadcasters he considers too critical of his regime. He said the government is developing eight new media related laws including one that creates a new set of “media crimes” punishable with prison sentences. Read more here
The Palestinian intelligence service have arrested freelance journalist Mustafa Sabri in Qalqilya city north of the West Bank having only been released from preventative security prison a few days before. He has been arrested and interrogated many times without being charged. Read more here
Mario Alviso, manager of Radyo Nitin in the Philippines, has received a text message from an unidentified sender the day after the death of political commentator Godofredo Linao’s murder, stating that the killing was “just a sample” of what could be done, and that “he would be next.” Read more here
