Prosecution lawyers in the case of slain Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya are insisting that Chechnya’s pro-Moscow leader Ramzan Kadyrov should be called to give evidence at the the alleged murderers’ trial.

Kadyrov’s name is frequently mentioned in case files and witness testimonies. However, the investigators had never interrogated Kadyrov during investigations that have lasted over two years.

Before her death, Politkovksya was working on a report accusing the then prime minister Ramzan Kadyrov of gross human rights violations in Chechnya.

Moscow Regional Military Court has announced that the trial will be closed, although it had sanctioned the trial be open to public a day before.
