We are delighted that Arts Council England has renewed support for Index on Censorship in its latest round of funding. The Arts Council received more than 800 applications for National Portfolio Organisation funding — organisations that the council will fund for the next three years — and we are honoured to be among those who were successful, and that the Council has chosen to maintain funding at its current level.

Jodie Ginsberg, Chief Executive of Index said:

“Funding from the Arts Council enables us to continue to support writers and artists to reach a broad audience through our award-winning magazine, innovative events, and through initiatives such as our Young Writers programme. It’s great that the Arts Council recognises the importance of Index’s work in supporting freedom of expression.”

The Arts Council will support Index with £129,366 over the next three years.

Support free expression for all

At Index on Censorship, we believe everyone deserves the right to speak freely, challenge power and share ideas without fear. In a world where governments tighten control and algorithms distort the truth, defending those rights is more urgent than ever.

But free speech is not free. Instead we rely on readers like you to keep our journalism independent, our advocacy sharp and our support for writers, artists and dissidents strong.

If you believe in a future where voices aren’t silenced, help us protect it.
