The long reign of Ferdinand E. Marcos came to a sudden end on 25 February this year. His successor, Cory Aquino, widow of the assassinated opposition leader Benigno Aquino, has signed a proclamation which promises to respect the basic rights of the Filipino people. How has press freedom fared in the first six months of the new presidency?
